Clif Shot Bloks Energy Chews Reviews of Stomach Issues

GU chomps and stomach issues

MayMaydoesntrun

I tried GU chomps today for my second 7 mile run, ever. They seemed to work, seeing I didn't run out of gas at the end.

What I'm wondering is, the gassiness/bloating I'thousand experiencing, could it be from the chomps? I've read where they give some people stomach bug and I'k wondering if this is what they hateful.

Otherwise, I may just be a gassy, bloated person today. :mumble:

You lot did follow it with three-iv oz of water? I know that you have to potable water with most midrace fuels to help with absorption and as well to minimize breadbasket bug. As well, the ones with caffiene can cause tummy upset in some people (I once accidentally bought some with caffeine and didn't realize information technology til mid run. Not fun!)

You may merely have to effort several different brands/flavors to find what agrees with you best.
I personally like Clif shotbloks and powerbar energy chews.

Doh! I did not..that could be the culprit. I take some other packet of chomps, I'll do it correctly next time and see if that helps. Thanks!

  • sunleigh

my friend says they requite her stomach problems, like have to run for a bath right now kind of issues. i never used them b/c she said that, that is the final matter i demand;)

  • ninamm3

Each time I've used GU, I've been sick to my tum! I cannot utilise it ---bummer! ...and yes, I chase information technology with more than enough water. :/

I used a GU gel on my concluding long run, with plenty of h2o, and I experienced no unpleasant side furnishings. Well, other than the consistency being kinda weird..

A friend of mine has the same issues. She likes the Cliff shot blocks. I tried them only they were super chewy and hard to eat, they kept sticking to my teeth, only possibly mine were just stale.

I accept no issues with Gu so I just stick with them.

Try the Jelly Belly Sport Beans. They're small and then you tin try ane or two and run into if that's enough of an energy supply without whatsoever side effects.

I have the GU chomps and I experience like they exercise not work for me :(

  • trimom10

Allow me commencement say I've never had stomach issues, but I've tried multiple brands (GU chomps, Power Beans, GU gel and Hammer gel) to notice the best gustation and class. I didn't intendance for the Power Beans or Chomps since you take to chew and they got stuck in my teeth.

My favorite is Hammer Apple Cinnamon gel. Information technology isn't as thick every bit the GU and that particular flavor tastes just like apple pie mmmmm. Plus, with the gels y'all just slurp them down and have a few swigs of water (the water part is important like someone mentioned earlier).

Try the SportsBeans or Beloved Stinger chews/waffles. I accept horrible breadbasket issues anyway and these methods work well for me for fueling during long runs. I tin can't do Gu or GuChomps most of the fourth dimension, fifty-fifty with the right corporeality of h2o.

I've tried (and failed) using GU chomps. the GU packets themselves merely creep me out.

I estimate I'm withal messing around with what to swallow. I've tried peanut g&ms, pretzel k&ms, gummy bears, protein bars, GU chomps, sports jelly beans... the but thing I've constitute that works for me over long distances (15+ miles) are tortillas.

  • trlrnrgrl

Tortillas, that'southward crawly! And a good thought, likewise - I'm gonna try it.

Chomps also brand me experience bloated. So I've besides had to play effectually with unlike foods because i get-go getting bloating and cramps on anything over about viii miles if I don't eat the right foods. It seems similar for me, I have to become with something easy to assimilate and no fiber. I think Chomps simply make my tummy take to piece of work too hard to digest, I guess.

Gu does work well for me, but I go tired of eating them after 2 or iii (so sweet). Something else that works slap-up for me is almond butter for anything longer than x or 11 miles. I seem to need a chip of poly peptide in addition to carbs, so carrying a packet of Justin'southward chocolate almond butter (which tastes awesome) works well. Considering it'south already basis into a butter (unlike whole nuts), information technology'due south easier on my stomach. I besides similar Newton's fruit crisps when I need some carbs but am tired of Gu. They are tasty and requite me a good shot of carbs without bothering my stomach. Oh, and Oreos rock on my longer runs!

  • hkulbacki

I've tried nearly of the gels also and had stomach issues with all but the Honey Stingers. If you similar the sense of taste of honey, they're great.

  • MayMaydoesntrun

I love all these alternative ideas! I've become disillusioned with the chomps AND the gels..Tried the sports beans, didn't really work for me either. I withal accept some gels left, but I'grand definitely going to try the tortillas and the oreos!

and the honey stingers! I do like honey!

Watching this thread eagerly, am experiencing stomach bug for anything over 3-iv miles:(

  • ccmccoy09

I'chiliad training for a one-half on 3/xi. What's been working for me is Trader Joe's applesauce or apple tree-banana crushers and Stingers. I swallow an applesauce crusher early (mile 3-ish) and then some other a couple miles after. They're just xl calories though and so i isn't enough. I similar the pink lemonade Stingers for afterwards on, around mile nine or 10.

I didn't similar the taste of Sport Beans, and Gu and Gel both gave me tummy problems inside two miles of eating. Which is too bad, because the chocolate Gu tastes like frosting out of a tin and was delicious. Clif Shot Bloks were great but too beefy, but I might give them another go. I had the tropical dial flavor.

I've only tried the Chomps and had no issues, but... not certain I used enough. I'1000 struggling myself with all this "energy" stuff now that I'm starting to run longer/farther. I'm confused about when to take them (before, during or both?)... how much to take.... etc. Even with water or gatorade.... do I stop, drink and go? Drink on the run? UGH.... so many new things to think about!!! Guess I'll simply have to experiment and see what works too!!!
